Johannes Schilling studied mechanical engineering majoring in energy engineering at RWTH Aachen University in Germany from 2009 to 2014.
In 2015, Johannes started his Ph.D. studies at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics at RWTH Aachen University under Professor André Bardow. Johannes earned his Ph.D. for his dissertation “Integrated Thermo-Economic Design of Processes and Molecules Using PC-SAFT” in 2020. From 2018 to 2020, Johannes led the research team on process design and energy systems engineering at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics.
In 2020, Johannes started his postdoc in the Energy and Process Systems Engineering Group at ETH Zurich, managed by Professor André Bardow, focusing on carbon capture and life cycle assessments to ensure sustainable solutions. From 2020 to 2023, Johannes led research teams on molecular design and circular carbon technologies, ranging from developing novel AI-driven models for thermodynamic property prediction to harnessing carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
Since 2023, Johannes has received the NCCR Turbo Grant, spearheading the exploration of AI-driven tools for predicting chemical properties for the chemical industry. This venture into entrepreneurship allows him to bridge the gap between academia and industry to commercialize groundbreaking solutions for the transition of the chemical industry.
