Optimization of decentralized energy systems participating in energy and balancing-power markets
Curriculum Vitae
Niklas Nolzen studied mechanical engineering, focusing on energy engineering at RWTH Aachen University and Tsinghua University in Beijing. He graduated from RWTH Aachen in 2018. Since 2020, he has additionally been holding a master`s degree in management, business & economics from RWTH Aachen University.
During his studies, he focused on energy engineering, optimization, and operations research. In his master thesis in energy engineering, he optimized the transition path of the German energy system until 2050, considering sector-coupling and life-cycle impacts. In his master thesis in management, business & economics, he developed an optimization framework for integrating battery-electric busses in the investment planning of local transportation networks.
In 2019, Niklas joined the group of Professor André Bardow at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics at RWTH Aachen University. Since 2020 Niklas is a member of the Energy and Process Systems Engineering Group at ETH Zurich. In his research, he focuses on the optimization of decentralized energy systems in energy and balancing-power markets.
