Circular Carbon

Current chemical production relies on linear carbon flows. However, these linear carbon flows need to become circular to reach a sustainable chemical industry. In our circular carbon group, we aim to shape this circular chemical industry. We operate on all scales of the chemical industry, ranging from supply chain optimization to process development and molecular design. Our expertise at different scales of the chemical industry allows us to identify areas of concern at a system level, design new processes to alleviate these concerns, and unlock the molecular design space to enable change.

Currently, our technological focus in circular carbon lies on carbon capture and utilization, polymer recycling, and biomass utilization. To exploit the full potential of these applications, we apply multi-scale approaches by linking our methods on computer-aided molecular and process design, system optimization, and life cycle assessment. Thereby, we aim to accelerate a sustainable circular economy based on CO2 utilization, biomass utilization, and recycling.
